Why do we live our lives in yesterday? These Black & White movies just hug my family in such a wonderful way. Million Dollar Movies that used to come on Channel 5 or 11 with all these movies that had such a strong story content, it had it all,and the way the music would identify the good guy and the villian was something wonderful. PLEASE ,AND IM BEGGIN.......DONT STOP SHOWING THESE MOVIES !!!! The good People in this world still need them, so we can go home for an hour or two. O.K?
You might like ‘Irene’ (Ray Milland); ‘The Invisible Woman’; ‘The Locket’ (Brian Ahern); ‘If I had a Million’, (Gary Cooper); ‘The Maltese Falcon’ (Bogart); ‘No Man of Her Own’ (Clark Gable & Carol Lombard - PS Title sounds weak but the film is strong); Also TV series, ‘Rockford Files’; ‘Harry O’, (David Jansen); ‘The Fugitive’, (David Jansen); ‘Burke’s Law’, (Gene Barry); ‘Mannix’;
I remember those Million Dollar Movies! They were great! 👏
Yeah, and remember not to long ago (about 10yrs ago ) those low channels used to be accessible and FREE without having to pay a cable company (I'm a millennial, and I still can't believe that). It used to be so easy prior to 2014 when anyone could buy a tv, plug it in and get channels 1-20 without having to sign up with Comcast or att. I'm guessing all channels were free back in the older days.
The million dollar movie...yesssss😎
Minus the commercials. That alone is worth subbing to RUclips for me 🎥 🧥
Wonderful old movie! I was so blessed to be born in 1948 and grow up watching these on our black and white tv. Great stories, great acting, no vulgarity no cursing - just my speed! Thank you for posting this!!

My thoughts exactly! And thanks for voicing them Lila! And you too Petal Poppy I couldn’t agree more such foul language is un-par-don-ab-le!
I used to have a brilliant and classic quotation by some famous writer in either English or French literature on those who are unable to contain themselves from using unnecessary coarse crude and vulgar swear words. Must try to root it out from its hiding place!
And to the kind person generous enough to make such black and white classic films available for us grateful viewers thanks a million! Especially with this one with a vast choice of sub title languages to choose from! Splendid - Spanish, French and German....Terrific! Thanks again!

Even the music gets me in the mood for these old movies
I love the music in most every old movie 🎉
Film noir is truly my type of movie to watch the styles in clothing the cars, everything about it to me is like magic! A time like none other the golden days of hollywood! The stars of long ago they truly filled the bill while making these movies! Nothing in the viewing world of movies today comes near the atmosphere of the great "FILM NOIR" movie!!!
Andrea De Salvo. You just summed up exactly how I feel. You said it all perfectly! This is sure a good one, and I can't think of better escapism. Take care....great minds think alike, lol!😊
@Justice Boofer I wasn't even a twinkle in my dad's eye then. I was born in 1970 and have only recently started to appreciate the beauty of Film Noir. So I'm off to watch another.
Funny socks
Born in 1970 as well and started getting into old-time radio shows around 15 years ago, and now into film noir fo about a year now I guess... Love everything about this stuff - the dialogue, the manners and social graces they displayed back then.. it’s nice to just sort of peek into that world for a bit.
@@keykrazy Even the way the women light and hold their cigarettes is so different. You can see why, until recently, it was cool to be a smoker.
How right you are.
Just that one moment - such perfectly perfect acting - the few seconds Brian Donlevy takes to call and check after his crash and he immediately discovers the betrayal - he sits on the bench, and cries. Lady's and gentlemen, that was real acting. Real sorrow. Condensed agony. Just that one moment.
Brilliant film. Yes, that moment of realisation, not going to be beaten anytime soon.
Carole M Pluckrose yes
That moment of realization
It hurts more than anything
PS you’ve been out for a LONG time
It's a brilliant bit of acting and unusual in Noir films for a man to cry. In this case with good reason because betrayal is painful. I like how the old fella tries to console him as best he can. Shows he's in a good town with good people, after a really crappy experience.
A keen eye to highlight this moment, made more piercing by its immediate follow-up, when the old station master finds him crying and asks if he can make it across the street to see the doctor, at which point he stands and says, "Yes, I'll make it." This is 40 mins into the film, every second of which we're wondering: Why? What on earth could compel his wife, especially with the appealing Helen Walker in the role, to betray THIS man for such a sleazy weasel?
What a GREAT movie!! Right plot, right acting, right twists, and a real love plot in a Film-Noir! Couldn't get any better.

The Movie Undertow was made 1949 and is as good if not better😂
Brilliant acting by Brian Donlevy; his interpretation of the self- made man from working class is complex, believable and touching. There are several moments that are truely great. He is that character, self-assured, well centered and having a good sense of self-worth, which is the necessary prerequisite to be soft, friendly and calm towards his wife, house maid, and, one might presume, also in his interactions with friends, family and subordinates. It happens in real life quite often that people misinterpret a person like the one portrayed by Brian Donlevy as week and sometimes stupid. His only weekness was his trust in his wife. However, I just wanted to thank ccc for making classics like this available for all of us.
A real classic.
Began watching, then realized immediately that I'd seen it already, a couple of years ago. I thought I'd just watch another few minutes while the dinner finished cooking, but became hooked into it again - it's just so good, plot, characters, acting - and have watched the whole film again. Just top quality.
Definitely of its time, but, as with so many old films, it really is rewarding to be reminded of those times. Of course there were many things very wrong in human society in the 1940s, but just look at the way things are portrayed here - the incidental things, as much as anything. The manners, the way folk spoke, the promise in basic human decency and a more or less inevitable progress towards good, however slow, that was in the air then, all over the world, not just the USA [I'm English]. Our society now contains many improvements and good new ideas, but compared to those times we have degenerated into a world of top-level lies, intolerance, and mass hysteria steered by the worst human natures, who work their mischief in underhand ways, manipulating, with the help of technology and language, the emotions and fears of ordinary citizens. I don't know anyone who has lived through all the years since 1949 who feels that this world is better than that one.
Sorry about that. Out of place here. After all, good times, bad times, perhaps its just a natural cycle.
Anyway, anyone wondering whether to watch this film, do so. It's well-constructed, plain, and very good storytelling. Very satisfying.
Thank you, uploader.

The actor who plays Lt. Quincy, Charles Coburn, was born in 1877. That's just 12 years after the Civil War ended. Kind of puts things in perspective from a time standpoint.
About the same age as Winston Churchill.
Love it!!!
Still 12 years afterwards though.
Queen Victoria had another 24 years on the Throne!
It certainly does! (Maybe you’ve hit upon the source of that style of his : My guess is that when Coburn was kid a big part of his standard entertainment would surely have been found in the stories of Mark Twain and Robert Louis Stevenson and Dickens - ‘Tom Sawyer’, ‘Treasure Island’ and ‘Great Expectations’ - Perhaps for 10 minutes per day a modern parent could read some of these popular classics to the very young (8 y.o. And up) might give today’s young people some of that sense of naturalness and warmth and confidence - help to keep the ups-and-downs of life in perspective.)
What a grand old movie! Loved every minute of it. Fine actors, tantalizing plot. Thank you.
I love these old movies. I am felt so bad for the poor husband. He loved her so much and did things for her and she didn't know what she had. She should have just left if she didnt love him anymore. Yes!!!
I must admit this was a surprisingly wonderful movie. You just can't replace good old black and white. At 64, I had never heard of this movie and I was raised on these oldies. It somewhat reminded me of Niagara with Marilyn Monroe and Joseph Cotton, except this one had a rather sad ending. Impact had beautiful clothes and really cool cars and no obscenity nor nudity. They just don't make them like this anymore. 🌹
Even noir. Didn't go too far off of HAYES CODE...unless it's the violence
Early Perry Mason and Dragnet were noir. But softened later
~ Yes! I love the clothes, cars, homes and furnishings from most of these superb black and whites.
Hollywood doesn't make movies like this anymore. Those were very good times for almost everyone. Sad to say they won't be back!
But we can see the possibilities - That’s the direction of more evolved future civilisations - i.e. Sophistication and sensitivity : Not primitive aggression and petty moralising! - (Even if it takes 1000 years)
Didn't expect to find so much poignancy and sweetness in a film-noir movie with the themes of sacrifice, truth, and justice being prevalent. And did I actually see people go to church and pray? GASP! 😲 Plus an intricate mystery and suspenseful plot. It highlights forensics way before CSI ever came along. Thanks for another quality upload of a quality film. LL 🙋🏻♀️
I just love all these old films when everything seemed to have a touch of class.
Love your name!
I fully agree! It was another world where life roles were clear and everything made more sense. In fact, this Is my way of keeping myself sane and happy. And I'm not alone. I have you guys!!
Love never existed only in minds that lived it , these days no one plays the game of love so no one knows it ever existed
@@wilburwalker1785 How are "life roles" clear and how do they make sense? Roles are just a product of their times, usually dictated by Hollywood for years.
@@nedludd7622 well, for example, men worked to provide a safe comfortable home for their family, and men also had penises, and shaved every day (and not the tops of their heads). Women had vaginas, (and vaginas were limited to only the females), and they raised their children in person and were not ashamed to do so, nor felt that they had to add title descriptors to their role just because they raised their own children IE "stay at home" mom. The boy scouts only took boys, the girl scouts only took girls, and there was nothing politically diabolical or insensitive about that.
This one was a real cliff hanger. I was on the edge of my seat near the end. Wonderful plot line and acting.
This is wonderful movie. Great story line. I'ts got everything! I watch it every couple of years and it NEVER gets old.
I do love many of these old black & white movies. Great plots with a storyline, the actors, the dialog. Too many of modern movies is just visual stimuli, car crashes, excess gunfire, explosions, etc. Gratuitous visual stimuli is not bad but many, not all, older movies know how to fit it in and still hook me on a plot.
Do you like any of the newer black and white movies? Like; "The Artist", or "Blonde", or "The Man Who Wasn't There", or "The Lighthouse", or "Nebraska", for example... 😳 Just curious...

God is crushing them as we speak ‼️
What a great film to watsch in a cold winter night here in Germany! Love the film, the cars, Ella Raines (in a mechanics overall!) and the typical US 40s/50s small towns. This must have been paradise. Thank you very much for sharing!!!
If you like this movie, you may want to watch "Inferno" from ,1953 starring Robert Ryan.
@@michaelcanty4940 Thanks for the tip
Wow! The quality of the picture is on point! Almost HD.
I love this film, just watched it a few weeks ago on another site, then found it here on RUclips. From the scheming femme fatale to the suspenseful pursuit of the truth to the understated but heartfelt love between the two leads, this is a classic film noir in every way.
Very good. Suspense, drama whole way through. Wife tries to have husband killed but he survives. Thanks for sharing.
that''s a spoiler
I seen this movie years ago and only remember the part where he starts working at the gas station. What a great movie this is.
This is a very enjoyable movie. From the start to the end it is full of twists and turns. Thank you for the upload. 🙌
It’s like two movies welded together
This is absolutely one of the best films ever made.
Any film with Charles Coburn is a gem.
I TOTALLY 2nd that!!!
You got that right.
He's one of the most memorable characters in all Hollywood, and, of course, totally delightful against Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
I was loving ❤ 💕 it, anyway...but the moment He stepped in...absolute Greatness!!!
@@MichaelGunner123 i third that!!!
One way to tell how good a movie is - is how many times do you enjoy watching it over and over??
I have seen this movie at least 4 or 5 times. I know I will watch it again.
Nothing about it seems great.
But, it has no wasted scenes. No wasted dialogue.
I dare you to watch it for 10 minutes and not be grabbed by it.
You will fail.
You will love it.
I like this alot. Will watch it again next month. Donlevy was very good, and I've always enjoyed seeing Charles Coburn in the old flicks. Thanks alot for this.
Love Brian Donley and the golden age of movies.❤
One of the best film noir !
The 1940s had some of THE BEST movies.
Mae Marsh who plays the mother was a beauty in the Twenties.
Bellissima trama, avvincente, come sempre i film anni 30,40 e 50 sono i migliori per lo stile, le trame, gli attori, i costumi
😊
Great !
One of the best film noir ever !
✨✨✨✨
I like to see old movies, women's dresses, a lot of elegance, well-dressed people, cars from that time.
And the men wearing those short, fat ties and their pants up over their navel .
This is a really great one. Great acting, great scenery, great story. Really enjoyed it. They don’t make them like this anymore.
Wish they made more movies like this, stayed up til 2:00 AM to watch it.
Yes and I don’t think they even know how to make movies like this anymore.
They CAN'T make them like this anymore.
Too many people were raised with SCREENS over BOOKS & plays
I remember watching this with my papa when he had his heart attack. 1964 I think.
Grama went somewhere all day, so I got to stay home from school with him. He took me to a restaurant he had the biggest steak I'd ever seen. He made me swear I'd not tell grama. He even mentioned it on the way home too. It was pretty funny. We fed the sandwiches to the dog. And when grama was coming on he said remember. Not a word.
HAHAHAHA
She had him on, no eggs, bacon, red meat, fried anything....
He was starving. Hahahaha
Plus he drives a great convertible (until it gets incinerated).
The movie and writing is Sensational!
helen walker was really under rated comedy. murder. versatile. died young.
She was great in this especially the last scene when they cuff her
How a good actor can take a role in the bit. he who played the defense lawyer of Williams. Pure Perry Mason stuff! Done with great skill.
There are good movies, then there are really good movies . This is a really good one 👍🙂
Dspeir Agreed. This is really well done.
Good to know. Thanks. I will be watching.
Agreed
@@burpreynolds3250 it's so nice tobe talkingtou
Couldn't agree more...👍🙂
Looking at him use that ratchet reminds me of how it’s never been replaced but here it is 2023 and we still use them lol
Saying, "It was a great movie" might be an understatement. And so I say, "it is ok by me boss" having seen this great movie.
Ella Raines is beautiful! What a wonderful movie!
She looks a little like Milla Jojovic.
@@lindaflowerpower8498 You cannot compare the Brilliant beautiful Ella Raines with the ugly Milla Jovovich
Great story, thank you for uploading this little gem!
I keep coming back to rewatch this wonderful film.
Formidable ! Un film plein de fraîcheur et d'une certaine naïveté, comme il s'en faisait à l'époque sans se prendre la tête...
Ella Raines est juste magnifique.
Un tout grand merci pour ce moment de plaisir joyeux !
I cannot reccomend this movie any more highly... great plot and it shows scenes of SF and Sausalito as it really was back in 1949. The building where the Williams' live is called the Brocklebank and was the residence of Gavin & Madeline Elster in Vertigo (Nob Hill). and of course the fantastic Miss Anna May Wong!
Was also the apt building where Gene Wilder ended up falling off the ledge into a fire department rescue net in "The Woman In Red."
I've seen this 3 or 4 times now, just love it, really great engaging story
THIS FILM IS A GEM GREAT SCRIPT GREAT WRITER WHEN WRITERS MATTERED WITHOUT A SCRIPT THERE IS NO MOVIE
Can’t wait to watch this one - sounds good! You can’t imagine how much appreciation I have in these sucky times to have your movies to comfort me at night. Thank you. 🇺🇸
Janice Smith. From one Jan to another...I completely agree.❤😊
Jan Upczak 🥰
Janice I second that.
